Top 5 California Convention Centers

The pandemic shut down all conventions and trade shows for a number of years. Now, with the crisis behind us, California is readier than it ever has been to start hosting these events again. Many facilities have used the time they were shut down to make improvements to their space, update their protocols, and get even more ambitious with their goals for sustainability. When attending any of these California convention centers, be sure to contact us first about our modular trade show booths.

1. San Diego Convention Center

Address: 111 Harbor Drive, San Diego, California

The San Diego Convention Center is in a primary downtown location in the Marina district. The facility’s close proximity to the San Diego shore is showcased in the facility’s fiberglass ‘sails’ that are coated in Teflon and adorn the roof. This feature is a tribute to the city’s history which is steeped in the maritime industry. The structure was originally an open-air structure with a roof, but it was enclosed in glass more than 20 years ago, which greatly expanded the area of use in the center. Take one of our modular trade show displays that feature LED lighting and people will be able to see it not only inside, but outside, too.

The Convention Center boasts nearly three million square feet of space and offers flexible and abundant space for any type of event. The facility has a capacity of 125,000 people with 615,700 square feet of exhibition space, which includes the Sails Pavilion. In addition to this immense amount of space, there are also over 70 meeting rooms located throughout the upper and mezzanine levels.

2. Moscone Center

Address: 747 Howard Street, San Francisco, California

This San Francisco convention center is officially called the George R. Moscone Convention Center but is more commonly referred to as simply Moscone Center. The convention center is named after former San Francisco mayor George Moscone, who was tragically assassinated in 1978. After having undergone several renovations and expansions in the last 20 years, the facility now boasts more than one million square feet of functional space.

Additionally, the Moscone Center also has 82 meeting rooms and more than 100,000 square feet of lobbies that provide gorgeous city views, as well as a view of the Yerba Buena Gardens that surround it. Outside, there are 25,000 square feet of outdoor terraces, making them the perfect spot for our outdoor custom trade show displays. The center is also LEED Platinum certified and has fewer carbon emissions per delegate than any other major convention center in all of North America. Fifteen million gallons of groundwater are reused every year in the Center for street cleaning and to irrigate nearby parks. The solar panel roof is also the largest in San Francisco.
