What Do Visitors Want From Your Trade Show Booth?

For years the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) has been the leading research center for trade shows. Exhibition organizers, vendors, and attendees eagerly look forward to the reports they often publish about the trade show industry. A report from the organization a few years ago focused on what visitors want from trade show booths, and the same ideas still hold up today. So, what do visitors want from your trade show booth?

Interactive Activities

The report largely showed that trade show visitors today no longer want passive booths where they simply watch someone demo a product or lecture them about a service. Fifty-nine percent of survey respondents said they want interactive demonstrations. Visitors today want to be more hands-on, meaning they want to hold your product in their hands, or find information on their own using an iPad or other device. If your trade show booth does not incorporate elements that allow visitors to examine, hold, and explore on their own, you could lose out on a lot of leads.

Bring Actual Product

There are times when you will not be able to bring actual products to a trade show. Perhaps your product is too big for the booth, or maybe you are not actually releasing the product for many months. While sometimes these challenges do arise, you should try to avoid them.

Visitors expect to hear big promises at trade shows and for the more experienced or cynical person, they will fall on deaf ears. If you can bring an actual product, visitors will be more likely to believe what you are telling them. Of the survey respondents, 58 percent said they want more hands-on time with products.

Find Better Ways to Send Material Home

Having a brochure or pamphlet or two is not necessarily a bad thing at a trade show. If this is all you can do for the moment, it is a good place to start. However, paper can often get lost or destroyed, or attendees may simply never look at them once they are home.

Think about creating branded USB thumb drives that can store promotional material and you can give to visitors. Or, use QR codes or social media to give visitors a place to go and download material. If it is within your budget, you can also create an app and give that out to trade show visitors. Do not think that these strategies are a waste of time. The survey showed that 58 percent of respondents want to take materials home to study at their own convenience later.
